The Debating Birds

There once was a blue bird
And a sparrow.
One brought a kind word
The other sorrow.

Each morning they talked
About death and life.
Even though their kin elsewhere flocked
Between them there was no strife.

But one day a crow joined them.
It asked "why do you debate,
About love and hate?" As he looked at them
It said "it should be about what to eat."

The debating birds scoffed
And the crow they did mock.
So the crow flew aloft
And said "be careful, words can't protect you from a hawk."

They continued debating
Ever morning.
The constant chirping was irritating
Especially during a time of mourning.

So one day a man picked up a stone
And aimed for the birds.
Hatefully the stone was thrown,
And the last thing the birds said were fearful words.

The crow looms over the two birds, now dead
It's his turn to mock.
With a gleeful expression on his head
He said "what's philosophy to a rock?"

Sincerely,
Sigmund Creed
